So one night months back, I was sitting with a friend of mine at Barnes and Noble having a coffee and converation. I told my friend that I am who I am in that I understand that everyone has a story and they need someone to hear them. My friend then asked, what is your story and all that came to mind is that I am a guy looking into the eyes of a dragon... yet I am not afraid.
Later that night, I started writing and before I knew it, I had the following.
Into the dragon's eyes he gazed unaware of its teeth and what it held back with each breath. The fire in his eyes cooled his mind and kept it off of the fire in her heart. His fire spread from his eyes to his mind. It made all his actions smoother, more precise, more pointed. It soothed him.
The fire in her heart filled her chest and caused her heart and mind to race each other. She could not see or sense anything anymore, but was consumed with the fire with in. She was so consumed that she could no longer see herself for who she was, yet he never lost sight of it.
This cold night, this bold knight stood before this dragon as the fire that consumed her was about to consume him. Her taloned hand was upon his so he could reach neither sword nor shield. Her hand was upon his so this night, he would remain defenceless. There was no ill intent in his heart.
The image that burned I'm his eyes was that which she could no longer see. She was not a dragon, but his damsel, whose distress caused her to see in her heart that her white knight had become a dark one and rather than seeing him as defending her honor, she saw as attacking her freedom and preventing her from flying and going as she pleased.
She had become overcome by the notion and burnt by desire. This ignited in her a desire to consume her once shining knight who could do nothing but stare into her eyes as he had before. He stared into them as one stares into the abyss but as onto his oblivion.
